The Q House in Spain Design by asensio_mah & J.M.Aguirre Aldaz

The Q House was designed by asensio_mah & J.M.Aguirre Aldaz is a conscious exercise in developing an alternative domestic environment to the surrounding villas of the new suburban neighborhood in north spain. This house concept to producing an alternative domestic atmosphere is developed by constructing a more explicit relationship between the house and garden with the existing conditions of the steep site. This deliberate geometric configuration affords multiple readings of the outline of the house while facilitating a rich experiential lifestyle within its volume and landscape. Specific organizational and material strategies were developed to produce different volumetric and perceptual readings that change with the different vantage points towards and within the house.

This house is modern house building organized in three bands that are arranged around a central circulation core. These three bands maintain a prevailing orientation in the northeast-southwest direction to secure maximum daylight in every room. While the bands configure and organize the different rooms, the circulation core underpins a switchback pattern of shifting orientations with the gradual vertical movement through the house. The house is clad in dark “composite” panels that have been customized with digital fabrication techniques. These customized panels are used to articulate sections of the house volume in order to introduce legibility to the overall form. These panels offer a range of different surface consistencies and patterns to the house that reflect the sites changing light conditions in multiple ways, producing an ever changing range of texture and tones. From the Architects

The building, seeks to maximize views over the parcel, it is organized along 3 bands that intersect around the circulation core. These three bands, that accommodate and organize the different rooms, open up towards different views and orientations, while maintaining a prevailing orientation in the northeast-southwest direction to secure maximum daylight in every room. While the bands configure and organize the different housing uses, they also demarcate the different landscape zones, defining the landscape qualities of the parcel.

The parcel is organized in a series of terraces that negotiate with the existing steep topography while configuring the base for a landscape with differentiated characters. The house is a conscious exercise in developing an alternative configuration to the surrounding villas of the neighborhood by developing strong relationships between the landscape and the house in order to produce multiple experiences within and towards the house. The multiple readings of the house mirror the rich experiential lifestyle that is facilitated by the geometric configuration of the house and its landscape.

House N-Modern House Design in Prestigious Street Zagreb by 3LHD architects

House N situated on of Zagreb’s most prestigious streets- Pantovcak at the highest and front most point of the plot, in order to take the best advantage of the inspiring view of the Zagreb city below. Close proximity to neighboring buildings on the eastern and southern borders of the lot influenced the house’s relatively compact design with a reduced number of openings in these two façades. The limited width of the lot was compensated for by extending the building in the lengthwise bearing – down a slope that was utilized in such a manner as to add a third story. Directions of movement in the interior were additionally accentuated within the external volume of the house and represent its main design element. The entire house, its façades and the roof are covered with the same material, dark brown HPL panels, which, in contrast to large openings, make its volume more compact.

The unfortunate position of an access road running alongside the entire length of the plot makes opening from the living room area to the most desirable southern vantage impossible. Consequently the southern area is modestly covered in a triangular glass shell that rises towards the southwestern corner and connects to the expansive glass surfaces of the western part of the house which are wholly open, thus connecting the living room with the garden.

The main accent in the interior is a wide two-floored hall that signifies the main connector of the ground and first floors. The first floor consists of intimate areas; a work area, parent and children’s zones, from which one may take in a most breathtaking view through a corner window. As the owners travel a lot, we wanted to create a calm and pure structure that was ideal for relaxation.Everything but the floors and the main structure was redone and we used the existing elements to create niches where we installed hidden lights. With all the lights being dimmable it also allows the owners to create the right cosy atmosphere that fits the often grey skies of Copenhagen.”

Eco Friendly House on the Water from Formodesign in Coast of the Greek

This is eco friendly house on the water located Navagio beach, NW coast of the Greek Zante island comes from formodesign. Designed as a rental house for people who want to be independent it’s available only through water. The core, made of concrete, is combined with steel cantilever structures. Vertical lines on the facade are the rails for computer driven shading system. First off, because of the orientation, the house benefits from a maximum of solar energy. The design is an Eco friendly one, based mainly on alternative sources of energy, such as water desalination and recycling, heat and energy consumption, ventilation methods, and solar energy systems.

Small Concept of Mako House by Bates Masi Architects, New York

This is the private small house located in Amagansett, New York and was designed by Bates Masi Architects. In many ways, a small house can be more luxurious than a large one because of the casual simplicity it affords. The owners of this little retreat in the dunes appreciated the lifestyle their quirky but comfortable weekend house provided for many years but its flows need correcting. Space was tight for their growing family, areas of the structure were sagging, and large expanses of glass admitted too much direct sunlight. Also, the form of the house, a series of boxes and turrets, was somewhat awkward looking.

The challenge in this major renovation and addition on a restricted site was to add space and amenities while simplifying the form and function of the house into a balanced whole that fit within the owners busy lives. The added spaces tie the house together visually and structurally. The new bedroom and bath on the second floor fills a void in the original composition and takes advantage of the spectacular views of the surrounding dunes.

The south wall of this bedroom is a sliding glass door that opens onto a new dock and views of the ocean beyond. The roof cantilevers past the door to form a sunshade that stretches, ribbon-like, past the existing, aster bedroom windows and down to a new storage closet on the first floor.

This ribbon visually knits the addition and the existing house together creating a simpler whole. The roof of the bedroom also extends to the west, forming part of the frame for a new screen that addresses the house’s structural and sun lighting problems while giving the house its appealing new public face. The screen within is comprised of 16’ long vertical boards heated and twisted 180 degrees.

This house situated high above the ground and facing shores of Lake Wakatipu in New Zealand, design by by Fearon Hay Architects. Inspired by landscape views around, floor-to-ceiling insulated windows in steel frames and roof terrace are things that enhance the ability to see picture-like mountains. A main sleeping space opens over the living space and is serviced by a centrally located bathroom. Heating set within the insulated floor slab provides additional comfort when required in the extremes of winter. The house gets the filtered water from a nearby mountain stream. Bottled gas is one of the main energy sources, although there is also electrical power provided.
