Warm and Cozy Rooms Rendered By Yim Lee

We came across the gorgeous work of designer Yim Lee on Flickr. It is fascinating to watch the way he plays with textures and colors to liven up the room. For example, he combines dark wood furniture, hardwood or marble floor with a fluffy carpet and sheer curtains that let the space fill up with natural light. Harsh straight lines of the sleek furniture are softened by textures of the wooden elements, or different patterns on amazing feature walls, and the warmth of the colors in the majority of the space is often broken with a pop of color here and there. It looks wonderful when it all comes together like this.

Airbnb’s Beautiful Offices

Office Snapshots has the scoop on holiday home rental company, Airbnb’s move to new premises. The new space means the team can spread their wings over 25,000 square feet, in airy surroundings designed by Michael Garcia and Farid Tamjidi of Garcia-Tamjidi.
The impressive headquarters can be found in Potrero Hill, San Francisco, with light flowing throughout the white open space, maximised by glass dividing walls. The industrial ceilings are offset by gentle elements, flowers and wall art, reminding you that “Life is lovely”. Pops of color bring warmth; work stations are defined by vibrant dividers, and a large kitchen houses a cheerful rainbow of SMEG fridge freezers. Injections of humour are made throughout, and there is a firm nod to the travel links of the company, with map murals and airport reminiscent signage.
Sleek Vitra furniture contrasts against traditional pieces to create a home away from home feel, much like the Airbnb ethos. In fact, they have brought several of their listings into the work place, with loving recreations of accommodation from Hong Kong, Berlin and more. These cozy meeting rooms punctuate the professional space with domestic lamps, rugs, cushions, and even a faux window with floor length curtains. With their clients houses sitting right inside their doorstep, no wonder they are one of the web’s fastest growing companies.

Kids bedroom designs by Mariani

Designs can be many, but it’s always challenging to save space without having to compromise with the beauty and aesthetics while furnishing and decorating a room. Here we have compiled pics of some innovative yet contemporary designs for kids’ rooms from Italian maker Mariani which is based in Milan.
kids space
Apart from making kids rooms bright, ventilated and colorful, the focus is on using sleek furniture giving way for space. This can be achieved through corner wardrobes or wardrobes with sliding and conventional doors, long sleek shelves, low cots and so forth. The trick is also to use the right blend of colors and contrasts between the walls and the décor to make the room appear spacious. Kids’ rooms should be organized to create free space which would provide them with the play area within their rooms while they are indoors.

Light, smooth, sleek and compact make can be used for the desks, tables and chairs comprising the study area. Corner stands will be ideal for table lamps or for placing little works of art. Cots with storage space under, low floor beds or bunk beds would to a great extent save space. The idea of using tables with multiple drawers or wardrobes with enough number of shelves or as the case may be is a smart approach towards saving space without having to opt for more means of storage.
Last but not the least the designs need to be implemented considering kids’ likes and comforts which would add to their satisfaction paving way for some constructive development…

A Peninsula House on Lake Austin, Texas

What do you get when you combine a contemporary design studio like Bercy Chen Studio with a traditional, 1980′s lakehouse right on Lake Austin? A spectacular vacation home with breathtaking views, that includes the best of both worlds–that is the comforts of a traditional lakehouse with the relaxing powers of modern design. The original home was built in the 1980′s and to Bercy Chen Studio’s disappointment, did not take advantage of the spectacular lake views just feet away from the house! That is why large glass windows, spanning from the ceiling to the floor, were installed around the entire house–to allow as much of the beautiful view in as possible. The previous house also did not respect or pay too much mind to the nature around it–but Bercy Chen made sure to change all of that with their remodel!
