Noyack Creek House by Bates Masi Architects
Designed by Bates Masi Architects, Noyack Creek House became a study in architectural theatre: a series of spaces in a carefully scripted sequence that subtly reflects his professional life. The path begins at the front door where perforated privacy screens slide apart like a curtain, revealing the loft-like living and dining spaces. Beneath the stair, hidden backstage for maximum privacy, the guest room shares the water view through a nearly hidden sliding door. The master bedroom is connected to the bath by a bridge overlooking the public spaces below which are lit by the glazed stair wall. Lined with a guardrail of stainless steel cables recalling a fly loft and catwalk, the path culminates in the master bedroom with its wall of glazing overlooking the water. The siding system is manipulated for varying degrees of privacy as well.

The team consists of Diego Molina Maria Arango and Camilo Pelaez renovation living room into more lighting. This residence brings a balance between nature and contemporary living in a renovation of an Art Deco style terrace.
The plan of the Master bedroom space is true to the axial layout of the house. To overcome the constraint of maintaining the height of the second floor a new mezzanine space was created to accommodate an additional guest bedroom in the attic space. A jack roof was necessary to allow sufficient light into the attic. Light is able to penetrate through the house. The main spiral staircase depicts a rhythmic ribbon that ascends to attic space. This detaches the circulation space and spatially breaks up the bedroom areas. The benefits of the flexible space leading to the air well gives the occupant the option of creating a different type of space within the house. The aluminium clad air well draws light into the residence ensuring a well-let open plan living space meeting the client’s desires.
